2C's Bean Art!

2C spent their Term 2 making this piece of Bean Art!
They have put in a lot of effort and had lots of fun making this artwork. It is not easy making this piece of work. It requires discipline, patience, determination, enthusiasm for and faith in the art in order for this project to bear fruit. So, I am very proud of 2C for having produced this beautiful piece of work as a class. For those who have put in extra effort during the production, I know who you are and I am appreciative of your efforts :)

Eventually, this Bean Art was sent to HortPark to be displayed in their LifeStyle Corner (a room that looks like the interior of a flat, with stylish furniture and wonderful plantlife). For those of you who do not yet know about HortPark, this is their website.
So, if you have time with your family, please visit the HortPark to see 2C's masterpiece!

Question: Do we need to do a final piece of drawing before the exams?

Answer:

You don't need to do your final design in acrylic paint or collage before the exams, but it is advised that you do because then you would have a good idea of how much time you need to complete your final work.

If you take more than 2 hours to finish it, then you will have to think of ways to work faster because if not you won't be able to finish it in your exam.

If you take only 1 hour to finish it, you should think of more interesting and complicated designs because then you can make full of your talents and the 2 hours in exam.

An example of a good Prep Work (For the theme of Botanic Garden)

Hey dear students!

This is an example of a good preparatory work done by a Sec 2 Teck Whyean from previous years.

This is to give you a better idea of the quality of work that is expected of you.

I have added in the appropriate headings and additional boxes for labeling at the right-hand corners to show you the basic required layout.

Of course, your theme is Recreating and Redesigning an Artist Work and not Botanic Garden. Also, your final artwork will be in acrylic paint or collage, not colour pencils.
But you can use can colour pencils in your prep work.

Term 2 Week 5 Sec 2B, C, D, E, F

Dear students!

Today, we will be preparing for our SA 1 Art paper.

We will be going through:
  • Exam paper and the required preparatory work
  • Research of artist artwork
  • Research of relevant information and objects
  • Discovering different ways of manipulating images
  • Expectations for next week's lesson

Exam paper and the required preparatory work

Choose one task to work on.

You have 3 pieces of A3 paper to work with and you can use both sides, which means you can have maximum 6 pages to work with.

The exam will be on 12 May, 3 weeks from now.
So, you should aim to complete 2 pages per week.

Take note of instructions in the exam paper.
We need:
  • Appropriate headings and brief annotations
  • Research & Investigation
  • First Hand Observations
  • Explorations
  • Final Composition (the last page)

Research of artist artwork

.....................................................................................
Now, create a word document.
This word document will be used to record all the research that you will do in this lesson.
At the end of the lesson, you will email this document to your personal email so you can access at home.
.....................................................................................

For the next 10 minutes, you will research and decide on an artist artwork that you will want work on.

The artists that we have looked
at so far:
You can, of course, go and research on other artists' artworks.
A good website to start from is Mark Harden's Artchive.

.....................................................................................
When you have decided on the artist artwork, record the names of the artist and the artwork on your word document. You should also copy and paste the image of the artwork on your word document.
.....................................................................................

Research of relevant information and objects

For the next 10 minutes, you will find out relevant information (esp. the artist's style and painting techniques) about the artwork that you have chosen and find pictures of objects relevant to those in the artwork.

.....................................................................................
When you have found the relevant information and objects, you should copy and paste them into your word document for use later.
.....................................................................................

Discovering different ways of manipulating images

For the next 5 minutes, you will go onto some of the the following websites and find out for yourselves the different ways of manipulating images.

This is to help you with your Explorations preparatory work.

You only need to observe how the images transform when you are looking through these websites. You do not have to know about how certain software were used to manipulate images, because we can always create the same effect by drawing and painting.

Be inspired by the variety of manipulations that are possible.

.....................................................................................
When you have found interesting ways to manipulate the images that you have chosen, write on your word document your ideas.
This is to help you create more interesting explorations.
Remember to copy and paste the relevant urls too, so that you can refer to the websites later on.
.....................................................................................

10 minutes before the end of the lesson:

Please --
  • Save your word documents on the desktop
  • Send your word documents to your email address
  • Delete your word documents from the desktop
  • Shut down your computer

Expectations for next week's lesson

By next week's lesson, you should have finished your Research and Investigation and should be already halfway through your First Hand Observations.

You should refer to some of the links in this blog entry to get ideas on how to conduct your Explorations.

For next week's lesson, bring:
  • Drawing papers
  • Pencils
  • Done preparatory work
  • Acrylic paints, if you are able to start on your Explorations

Thank you and have a wonderful artful day!
